Who you are contracting with
These terms apply when you book a lesson through this website. Your contract is with Greg Kaighin, a sole trader trading as Online Piano Lessons with Greg Kaighin. Contact details are at the bottom of this page.
By booking a lesson you accept these terms. Nothing here affects your legal rights as a consumer.
Accounts
You need an account to book. You must be 18 or over to hold one. If the lessons are for a child, the parent or guardian holds the account, makes the booking and pays.
Please keep your password to yourself and let me know promptly if you think someone else has access to your account.
The lessons
Lessons are one-to-one, delivered live over video call, and last 45 minutes. They run Monday to Friday. You will need a piano or keyboard, a device with a camera, and a reasonably stable internet connection.
I will be online and ready at the booked time. If I have to cancel a lesson for any reason, you will be offered an alternative time or a full refund — your choice.
If technical problems on my side mean a lesson cannot go ahead, it is rescheduled or refunded in full. If you cannot connect because of a problem at your end, I will do what I reasonably can to help, but the lesson may count as taught if the time is lost.
Prices and payment
- A single lesson costs £30.
- An 8-lesson package costs £224, which is £28 a lesson. It reserves the same day and time each week for 8 weeks and is paid in advance.
Payment is taken securely through the website when you book, by card via Stripe. Your booking is confirmed once payment succeeds. I am not currently VAT registered, so no VAT is charged.
If prices change, the change applies to new bookings only — never to lessons you have already paid for.
Your 14-day right to cancel
Because you are buying online, you normally have the right to cancel within 14 days of booking and receive a full refund, under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013. This is your legal right and sits alongside the cancellation terms below.
Lessons that fall inside those 14 days. Booking a lesson that takes place before the 14 days are up is a request for me to start providing the service during the cancellation period, and you agree to that when you book. You keep the right to cancel, but:
- if you cancel before any lesson has been taught, you get a full refund;
- if you cancel after some lessons have been taught, I refund what you paid minus the lessons already delivered, charged at the rate you paid — £28 a lesson for a package, £30 for a single lesson;
- once a lesson has actually been taught, that lesson itself cannot be refunded under the 14-day right.
To use this right, just email me at gkpianolessons@gmail.com saying you want to cancel. Refunds are made within 14 days of you telling me, to the card you paid with.
Cancelling or moving a lesson
Beyond the 14-day right above, you can manage bookings yourself from your account page at any time.
A single lesson. Cancel with at least 48 hours' notice and you are refunded £30 automatically, usually reaching your account within 5–10 days. With less notice it is not refunded automatically, because the time has been held for you and is unlikely to be filled — but get in touch and I will look at it. Illness and genuine emergencies are treated sympathetically.
A lesson in a package. Individual lessons are moved rather than refunded, so you keep all 8 you paid for. With at least 48 hours' notice you will be offered the same day and time in later weeks. If none of them suit, cancelling that lesson refunds it instead.
Ending a package early. You can cancel all your remaining lessons at once from your account page and be refunded £28 for each — the package rate you paid, not the £30 single-lesson price. Lessons already taught are not refunded, and a lesson less than 48 hours away is not included.
What I ask of you
Please arrive on time and ready to play. Lessons finish at the scheduled time regardless of when they start, since another pupil may be booked straight after.
Lessons must not be recorded without my agreement. Any material I share with you is for your own practice and should not be redistributed.
I may decline or end a booking if someone is abusive or the lessons are being misused. If I do that without good reason, you get a full refund of anything unused.
Liability
I am responsible for loss you suffer as a foreseeable result of my breaking these terms or failing to use reasonable care and skill. I am not responsible for loss that was not foreseeable when we made the contract.
Nothing in these terms limits my liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law does not allow to be limited. Your statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 — including that a service must be carried out with reasonable care and skill — are not affected.
If something goes wrong
Please tell me first — email gkpianolessons@gmail.com. Most problems are quickly sorted out, and I would always rather hear about one than not.
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and disputes can be brought before the courts of England and Wales.
