How it works
Every lesson is live and one-to-one. We'll work on technique, repertoire, sight-reading and theory, whether you're preparing for grade exams or simply playing for the pleasure of it.
Lessons are taught on MOOZ, a platform built for music tuition rather than meetings, so the piano sounds like a piano, not a video call.
I teach from a four-camera setup: my face, an overhead view of the keyboard, a side-on view, and a camera on the pedals — so you can see exactly what a hand shape, a wrist movement or a pedal change actually looks like. MOOZ also has a built-in on-screen keyboard, and lets me share material such as music notation and add handwritten notes to it while we work.
At your end, the minimum is a mobile phone, tablet or laptop. Two cameras is ideal — one on your face and another from the side — so I can evaluate posture and fingering, but it isn't something you need before you start.
For sound, headphones or in-ear monitors are best, and good quality speakers are fine. Phone or tablet speakers are usable, but they won't reproduce the full frequency range a piano needs — the bass end in particular will be lacking without proper monitoring.

Lessons run on weekday daytimes — which opens them up to people the evening rush never suited.

Settling in for the long term?
An 8-lesson package can renew itself automatically, and that is the option I would suggest for anyone planning to keep going. Your day and time stay yours indefinitely — nobody else can book that slot, and you never have to remember to rebook before someone takes it.
It renews by lessons taken, not by the calendar: £224 for the next 8 lessons once your current 8 are used up. A holiday or a rescheduled lesson moves the next payment rather than bringing it forward, so you never pay for a lesson you did not have.
Stop it whenever you like, in one click from your account page — you keep every lesson you have already paid for. It is entirely optional; the package works perfectly well as a one-off.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the first lesson really free?
Yes, if you're new to me. Your first 45-minute lesson costs nothing and needs no card details — it's a proper lesson, and a chance to talk through what you'd like to get out of learning so we can plan where to go from there. There's no obligation to book anything afterwards. One free trial per person, and it can be booked up to two weeks ahead.
Can my lessons renew automatically?
Yes, if you'd like them to. When you book an 8-lesson package you can choose to have it renew, which keeps your day and time held for you indefinitely and charges £224 for the next 8 lessons each time your current 8 are used up. It goes by lessons taken, not by the calendar — so a holiday or a rescheduled lesson moves the next payment rather than bringing it forward. Your card is stored securely by Stripe, never by this website. You can stop it at any time from your account page in one click, and you keep every lesson you've already paid for. It's entirely optional: leave the box unticked and the package is a one-off, with nothing stored and nothing renewing.
What equipment do I need?
A piano or keyboard with weighted (or semi-weighted) keys, a device with a camera, and a stable internet connection. You'll also need the MOOZ app, which runs on Windows, Mac, Linux, iPhone, iPad and Android — it's free for pupils, with nothing to pay on top of the lesson price. For sound, headphones or in-ear monitors are best, and good quality speakers are fine — phone or tablet speakers are usable, but won't reproduce the bass end of the piano properly. Two cameras is ideal, one on your face and one from the side so I can see posture and fingering, but one is enough to start.
Will I need to buy books?
Usually one method book to work through, and there's no need to buy anything before your first lesson — we'll choose what suits you once I've heard you play. Tutor books typically cost around £10, and I use my own teaching material alongside them. If you're preparing for a graded exam you'll also need that board's book of set pieces for the grade.
How do online lessons work?
Lessons take place on MOOZ at your booked time. MOOZ is built for music teaching rather than meetings: ordinary video-calling software compresses audio for speech, which cuts the top and bottom of the piano's range and adds a delay you can hear. MOOZ keeps the full frequency range, so you hear the instrument as it actually sounds. Download it once from mooz.pro/download before your first lesson — it costs pupils nothing, and I'll send a link to join. On my side I use a four-camera setup — my face, an overhead view of the keyboard, a side-on view, and a camera on the pedals — so I can clearly demonstrate technique. MOOZ also has a built-in on-screen keyboard, and lets me share material such as music notation and add handwritten notes to it while we work. One camera at your end is enough to start. Please set your device up to the side of the piano or keyboard, angled so that both your hands, the keyboard and your face are clearly visible.
Can I take graded music exams?
Yes — I prepare pupils for ABRSM, Trinity College London and Rockschool, and have entered candidates privately with all three for years. A private entry is exactly the same qualification as one made through a school; there is no separate route and nothing on the certificate distinguishes them. ABRSM's Grades 6, 7 and 8 also carry UCAS points. I handle the entry myself so it isn't extra admin for you, unless you're 18 or over and would rather enter yourself. Exams are never compulsory — plenty of pupils learn purely for enjoyment.
How do I pay?
Payment is taken securely through the website when you book a lesson — no bank details to arrange separately.
Can I cancel or reschedule a single lesson?
Yes — log in and manage your bookings from your account page. Cancel with at least 48 hours' notice and you'll be refunded the full £30 automatically, usually reaching your account within 5–10 days. With less notice it isn't refunded automatically; get in touch and I'll review it.
What about lessons in an 8-lesson package?
Individual lessons are moved rather than refunded, so you keep all 8 you paid for: with at least 48 hours' notice you'll be offered the same day and time in later weeks and can pick whichever suits. If none of them work, cancelling that lesson refunds it instead. You can also cancel all your remaining lessons in one go from your account page and be refunded £28 for each — the package rate you paid, not the £30 single-lesson price. Lessons you've already had aren't affected, and if your next one is less than 48 hours away that single lesson isn't included in the refund.
